Typography Tuesday #1
Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%.
On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months.
Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants. To find out more go to www.occupywallst.org
Two more United Way designs
Here are two more designs I’ve done in The Helping Hands series. I’m keeping the style the same through line work and very limited number of colors, but using the hands in different ways and using different colors to keep it fresh and different from poster to poster.

United Way drive designs
Here’s my first design/illustration I did for the annual United Way drive at work. Our tagline for this year is Helping hands make for light work. I am currently working on five more hand illustrations for the rest of the series. It’s definitely a fun worthwhile project. United Way is a great organization well worth donating to. 113th Annual Old Settlers Celebration cover
Old Settlers has been around for over a hundred years! It actually started before the turn of the last century. This is another festival celebrating the very early roots of the community, so I had fun doing an old western beat up cover for this year’s Old Settlers program. I gave it a real letterpress feel. The coordinators of this festival really let me have free reign on the cover, which is always fun. Hopefully their celebration goes over well this next weekend.
Sunday Drive won a Missouri Press Association Award
I just found out last week that the Sunday Drive section I did illustrations and page layout for won a 3rd place MPA award. It’s always nice to get some recognition for what you do. So for this happy occasion I decided put up an old cover I hadn’t put on the site before. Hope you like it.
SantaCaliGon Days Festival Cover
Here’s my latest cover design. This one is for a festival in Independence, MO celebrating that city’s history as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and the Oregon trails. This is the 39th annual celebration bringing in over 200,000 people in it’s four day span. It also has quite a lineup of country music groups including Marty Stuart, Eli Young Band, James Wesley, among many other acts. The people I worked with on this section were great and let me play with texture, color and typography to come up with this old-time look with a little, I hope, contemporary flair.
