New podcast I’ve been listening to, Adventures In Design

A fun and insightful podcast by Mark Brickey of Hero Design and Billy Bauman of The Delicious Design League host the Adventures In Design podcast. You should give them a try and get a behind the scenes listen to what is going on with gig poster/screen printing studios world as they talk about everything from flatstock at SXSW to French paper to Fab sales to what other designers do that pisses them off. They’ve had me laughing while I work a lot of times. You should definitely give them a shot. Here are some other sites they have to get some visuals of what they are talking about an see what people are saying about the shows: AID facebook and the AID Homepage.

Also a quick additional note Illustration Party Time has started podcasting again for the first time in about two years, so check them out at Illustration Party Time.

Mic Check Logo for local activist show

Here’s a new logo I’ve created for a local activist show I’m a part of on local community radio station. The Mic Check show is on KKFI 90.1FM Kansas City’s Community Radio on the 1st and 3rd Thursday night of every month at 7pm. We’re currently working on a website for the show. I’ll post about it when we get it set up.

Birdseye view illustration

Here’s another cover for the Home Guide in Ink magazine. This time I did an ariel view of a new neighborhood. A not so simple graphic cover that I’m happy with. I think if I had more time I would have gone into even more detail, maybe a couple walking their dog on the sidewalk, some more trees, someone grilling in the backyard. Anyway I hope you like it.

2013 Gladstone Bluesfest

Here’s another cover I’ve done for the Gladstone Bluesfest. I can’t even say how long I’ve been working with these guys, maybe ten years. Great people all the way around and a good music festival. The act I’m most excited about is Cedric Burnside. Yes, he is related to the late great bluesman R.L. Burnside. I saw him a couple of years ago touring with Lightning Malcolm and they were great. I’m definitely interested in seeing what Cedric will be like on his own now. The festival also has all the Kansas City Blues Society winners playing too. Check it out this coming weekend www.gladstonechamber.com .

Poster for the first Middle of the Map Film festival

This is the first year that the Middle of the Map Festival has done a film festival. So here is the poster that I did for it, playing off of the map idea I created a topographic map with a compass over it that the center of is a film reel. This is the icon that Barkley came up with for this part of the festival. On the map I put film reels as town markers with all the names of the movies in the festival instead of town names. I think it went over pretty well.

Ads for the Local Band Showcase at the Royals

Another fun project I’ve gotten to do here lately. This one is for the Local Music Showcase they do at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday home games. This year we went with a screenprint look for the ads in Royals blue and a lighter version of the Royals gold. These are the first two of the series. I don’t know how many different versions I’ll end up doing. It might be as many as eleven.  We’ll see how they go and also GO ROYALS!!! Awesome start to the season.

2013 Middle of the Map Music Fest program cover

Here’s the cover for this year’s (2013) Middle of the Map Music Fest. The new logo was done by Barkley Ad Agency. I did the design to work from Barkley’s work and then add my own spin onto it, hopefully making it more energetic.
